A Taste of Costa Rica

A newcomer in the cigar world, Brun del Ré brings not only fragrant Costa Rican Tobacco flavor but also interesting personal values closer to Indonesian cigar lovers.

The taste of Brun del Ré uniquely fresh. Strong yet subtle, totally relaxing for a chit-chat among close friends especially with a company of good Cognac – this depiction matches very well with what Carlo Corazza, General Manager of Brun del Ré, has in mind. "A cigar is best for people who knows what is good in life," and thus his philosophy takes Brun del Ré cigar to its peak quality.

Having 100% natural tobacco manufactured in Costa Rica, this beautiful cigar presents a refreshing alternative to the usual Cuban cigars. Brun del Ré’s first cigar boutique in Asia is available nowhere else than in Jakarta, at Gran Melía Hotel. "I took this decision (of opening a boutique in Indonesia), because in a global crisis like today, Indonesia is like Brazil in the sense that the economy is very stable, "said Carlo. His frequent travel to the country during the 90s had also much impact on his present business decision. "Indonesia," he continued, "has great potential to grow the cigar culture. There are, for the moment, more Cuban or Dominican cigars, but I believe the Indonesian cigar so would love to taste and smoke cigars so exclusive like Brun del Ré."

How exclusive? Well, the history tells that Brun del Ré family of European royalty decent has been in the cigar business since fifteen years ago. The family’s vast plantation in Friuly, Italy, is believed to take shape of what the next generation mostly hankers for. Despite being officially established in Costa Rica with the store "Mundo de los Puros" (Cigar World). Carlo agrees that Brun del Ré weaves various influences in its taste. And the result of it is impressive. Some famous western celebrities have had few Brun del Ré cigars, and they love it! "I’ve got 50 cent (American rapper) and DJ Antoine in my store once, and they said they liked the cigars!" Carlo proclaimed.

Asked what distinguishes Brun del Ré from other brands, the general manager answered that "we choose our tobacco very carefully and pay much attention on the quality control. Each line of our four lines is different in the tobacco mix. "true, customers can easily explore the variety of flavors exuded by each Brun del Ré selection. While the Premium one encapsulates best Nicaraguan tobacco and fine light-colored Connecticut of Ecuador wrapper, the Gold choise carries almost similar ingredients but with a blend and aroma that siut nicely to everyday smoker. For more experienced smokers, the Colonial Brun del Ré cigars smells and tastes perfect. It brings more robust flavor, complemented with aged Costa Rican wrapper. The last of four selections, Brun del Ré’s Connaisseur lives up to a connoisseur’s standard. This cigar masterpiece expresses the perfection of Costa Rican master blender as well as the epitome of hand-crafted gourmet cigars.

A short closing remark shared by Carlo on the best way to enjoy Brun del Ré was to "share (it) with good friends and have a nice Cognac. Sit back, relax, and enjoy life!"

Carlo Corazzo’s ancestors, from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy, began trading in Cuban cigars some 200 years ago. In tribute to his predecessors, Corazzo christened his Costa Rican cigar shop’s in-house brand after the former family name: Brun del Ré. In May, the 10-year-old Mundo de los Puros store and cigar lounge released the Brun del Ré Premium (www.brundelrecigars.com), a delicate, smooth smoke that comprises an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, Nicaraguan filler, and Indonesian binder. The Premium, one of four cigars in the Brun del Ré line, retails for about $11 per stick and is available in Churchill, torpedo, robusto, and corona sizes.
